Fort Lauderdale Liposuction

Fort Lauderdale liposuction qualfied surgeons use this technique to REFINE the figure, not for overall weight loss. So liposuctions is not some shortcut to becoming thinner without dieting or changing your eating habits.

Patients do not lose a lot of weight during the procedure and not a large quantity of fat is actually removed from the body. The great thing about liposuction is that the surgeon can use it to remove fat from targeted areas of the body that are often resistant to efforts to lose weight in patients who have, overall, already taken off a lot of pounds.

Some common examples of the areas liposuction is used for are the tummy, love handles, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, arms, chin and neck. Even with vigorous exercise fat in these areas often will not go away and the patient must rely on the surgeon to make the final adjustments. Fort Lauderdale liposuction surgeons use instruments that allow them to litterally recontour the patient's body by selecting which areas to remove excess fat from.

During the procedure, the fat beneath the skin is permanently removed with a suction device. Although liposuction has been popular with women for years, men are beginning to use it more, usually to reduce breast size. Many Fort Lauderdale liposuction surgeons have stated that this procedure is always most successful on patients that have firm, elastic skin and small, concentrated pockets of fat in cellultite areas.

The reason for this is that, to really look good, the skin must contract around the new contours of the body. Since older patients often have skin that is less elastic, they often are not good candidates for this procedure.

As far as recover goes, it depends on the size of the area that was treated, but, in general, patients are usually back to their routine within a week or two. It usually takes 2 or 3 months to completely recover from all the effects of having the surgery. During the first few weeks of recovery, a compression garment is often worn.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture Surgery

Recently, a new variation on liposuction has appeared that is called Ultrasound-assisted Liposculpture, or "UAL" for short. The metal probe used in UAL procedures has the ability to produce high frequency, ultrasonic sounds. The fat cells next to the sound emitting UAL probe are actually liquified and then removed by suction.

Using this technique, larger amounts of fat can be removed since there is much less tissue damage and bleeding. Surgeons have also found that UAL does not produce as much bruising in the patient. The results of UAL are usually smoother, decreasing the chance of contour irregularity, which can sometimes occurs after traditional liposuction.

The UAL may not work for you, however, since the probe can only be used in certain areas of the body. Check with your surgeon to see if this applies to you. Do not be surprised if UAL treatments cost significantly more than traditional liposuction, since the equipment is quite expensive. Finally, there are possibilities that earlier, first and second generation, UAL machines could damage skin with the powerful sound waves. Third and later generation machines do not have this problem.

After you have determined which of the Fort Lauderdale liposuction surgeons (or one in your area) will do your surgery, they might recommdn a combination of techniques in your case.
